Poker odds – how to be careful and shrewd at betting!

Poker odds.

Poker OddsMathematics is an essential part of a successful poker game. You always need to know your poker hands odds to carry out the most of opportunities to win the hand.

While playing for example Texas Holdem you very often need to know the odds of getting necessary combinations on the flop, turn or river.

This may seem hard, but it’s not as difficult as you think. You need to know only two things – the number of needed “hidden” cards and how many cards are already known to you.
What is the “outs”?
“Outs” is the number of cards that you need to get a winning poker hand. For example, if you want the flash combination, 9 cards will help you. As in the deck there are only 13 cards in one suit, four of them you already see (they can be on your hand or on the table), and the remaining 9 cards are theoretically in the deck or other players have them.
The hidden cards.
One of things that you need to know to calculate your poker hand odds is the number of hidden cards. For example, before the river you have two cards on hand and four on the table. That is, there are 46 hidden cards (52 – 6 = 46).

Once you get all the information, the calculation of odds becomes a simple mathematical task. If 9 is the number of cards that can help you, and 46 is the remaining number of cards, the odds to get the necessary combination will be (9 / 46 x 100 = 19.56%).
Flush. If you have on hand and on the table four cards of a flush, the odds to finish flush on the turn and on the river will be approximately 19% on every street. Chance of getting a flush on the river or on the turn will be about 35%.
Two-way Street. If you have four cards of a two-way straight on your hand and on the table, the poker odds to finish it on the turn and on the river will be approximately 17% on every street. Odds of getting a straight on the river or on the turn will be about 31%.

Inside straight. Quite a bad poker hand. Poker hands odds to catch an out for an inside straight on the turn and on the river are about 8%. The total odds to draw it on the turn or on the river are about 16%.
Set or Three of a kind. Poker odds to make from a pair on the flop a Set on the turn and on the river are 4%. The odds to draw a set on the turn or on the river are about 8%.
Rule 4.2.
If you can not remember your odds, then there’s a simple rule which gives the approximate odds to get poker combinations on the turn and on the river. It is called the “rule 4.2″.

Numbers 4 and 2 refer to the poker hands odds on the turn and on the river. To calculate your odds to get a poker combination on the turn or on the river, multiply the number of your outs by 4. If you need to know only odds on the river, you need to multiply your outs  by 2.
