← Back to Rules

Texas Hold’em is one of the most dramatic and popular variations of poker in the world with a wide variety of strategies. Texas Hold’em typically accommodates up to 10 players, but here you play against the dealer.

Objective

The objective of the game is to beat the Dealer’s hand by getting the best possible five-card hand using the two cards you are dealt and the five community cards.

Cards

Texas Hold’em is played with a standard 52-card deck. Cards are shuffled after each round.

The individual cards are ranked in the following descending order: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2. There is no ranking between the suits – so, for example, the King of hearts and the King of spades are equal.

A poker hand consists of five cards. Any hand of a higher category will beat any hand of a lower category (for example, any Three of a Kind will beat any Two Pairs). If there is a tie between hands in the same category, the rank of the individual cards will determine the winner. If the highest ranking individual cards are equal, the second highest individual cards, are compared, and if these are equal too, the lowest individual cards are compared. For example, J-J-A-9-3 beats J-J-A-8-7 because the 9 beats the 8.

Play

Play begins by placing an Ante bet. Once your bet has been placed click DEAL to deal the cards. You are dealt 2 cards face-up, whilst the Dealer is dealt two cards face-down.

You need to evaluate your hand and decide on one of the following options:

  • Fold – by clicking FOLD you lose your Ante bet. The game is over.
  • Raise – by clicking RAISE you continue playing and place an additional Flop bet that equals twice your Ante bet. Three “community cards” are then dealt on the table.

You need to re-evaluate your hand and decide on one of the following options:

  • Bet – by clicking BET you place an additional bet – Turn, that equals your Antebet and a 4th card will then be dealt;
  • Check – by clicking CHECK you continue playing, the 4th card will be dealt without any additional bet being placed.

Once the 4th card has been dealt you are given the following options:

  • Bet – by clicking BET you place an additional bet – River, that equals your Antebet and a 5th card will then be dealt;
  • Check – by clicking CHECK you continue playing, the 5th card will be dealt without any additional bet being placed.

Once 5 “community cards” have been dealt, the dealer’s cards are turned over. You and the dealer will make the best 5-card poker hand using any combination of the 2 initial cards and the 5 “community cards”. Your hands are evaluated and compared. The best 5-card poker hand will win.

Game Outcomes

  • If the dealer’s hand beats your hand, you lose all your bets (Ante, Flop, Turn and River).
  • If your hand and the dealer’s hand tie, it is a push and all bets are returned to you.
  • If your hand beats the dealer’s hand:
  • With a Straight or higher, the Ante, Flop, Turn and River bets are paid 1:1.
  • With a hand, lower than a Straight, the Flop, Turn and River bets are paid 1:1, whilst the Ante pushes.
